Champagne Rose Line

The Champagne Rose line is our contemporary romance line--besides Scarlet Rose, it's our hottest line. The reader here will find stories filled with sexual tension and passionate chemistry. Champagne Rose couples explore their relationship both emotionally and physically.

Without exception we should close the book completely satisfied by the happy-ever-after ending.  The heat level of the manuscript should still fall into the above criteria to fit our guidelines for a Champagne Rose. If it is sweeter, if there is no sex whatsoever within the story, then please refer to the Sweetheart Rose Line.

Please see the “How to Submit” section below.

Crimson Rose Line

Crimson Rose features romantic manuscripts with a mysterious twist.  The “heat” level in Crimson can be everything from sweet to spicy (except stories geared for Wild Rose’s Scarlet line) but the romantic tension must be present.  While the hero and heroine are exploring this tension, the storyline can reveal either a mystery or a thriller.

All of the suspense stories need to be fast-paced story lines driven by motives such as revenge, greed, betrayal, anger, love, desire, yearning and more. Think kidnappings, murder, blackmail, deceit, white collar crime, political intrigue, and everything in between. Danger caused by menacing villains. Fear caused by running from an abusive husband.  Any storyline involving high emotional states would be welcome.

Mysteries are a more cerebral adventure but every bit as intriguing. Clues are given through various methods which require the reader to think through them, something on the level of a literary jigsaw puzzle.

We are looking for intriguing storylines and well-developed characters. Crimson is open to series ideas.

Mainstream Thriller or Mystery Lines

Wild Rose Press is looking for manuscripts with secrets to be revealed and people who will do anything to stop that from happening. Our mainstream lines include both a thriller line and mystery line.

Let your mind get creative.

Mysteries are a more cerebral adventure but every bit as intriguing. Clues are given through various methods which require the reader to think through them, something on the level of a literary jigsaw puzzle. Again, these can either have a romantic base or not.

These stories do not have a romantic aspect to them but there are some general “rules” for all Crimson stories. We are looking for intriguing storylines and well-developed characters. Thriller/Mystery Mainstream lines are open to series ideas.

Yellow Rose Line

The modern day cowboy—strong, determined, hard-working, and protective over everything in their circle of life. They could be a businessman during the week and a cowboy on the weekends, fully involved in the ranch or just helping out family or friends. These heroes are strong and not about to be tamed. The heroines they fall for match them in every way. They are headstrong and confident women who aren't afraid to tangle with a cowboy. From Texas to Alberta, Alaska to Australia, wherever a cowboy rides, works, plays or competes can be the setting for your story.

We are looking for fast paced stories full of those cowboys we all love balanced with supporting family and friends to make a truly down home, heart-warming read. The level of sensuality can be sweet to spicy, but most importantly, should fit the story.

Sweetheart Rose Line

Sweetheart stories focus on the building relationship of the hero and the heroine. They include all the excitement and sensory detail of that first look, initial attraction, and first touch. The plots can inspire a touch of sadness, a rekindled flame or a burst of laughter, but all should provoke a sigh of satisfaction at the story’s ending.

Settings can vary from the small town where every bit of a character’s life is already known to the hustle and bustle of a big city. Creating emotion is key for Sweetheart stories. Provide enough detail so the reader creates solid mental images where your characters—complete with both attributes and flaws—meet, interact and fall in love. Start at the moment they bump into each other or see each other again after an absence. Dive into the characters’ personalities and into their thoughts, and create individuals the readers feel they might know in real life. Readers want to fall in love with the hero right alongside the heroine, and root for the heroine to succeed in her chosen goal.

Sexual tension must exist between the couple, which increases the conflict and sustains the suspense about how they will work out the relationship hurdles. However, love scenes (if they are present) are enacted only behind closed bedroom doors. This line includes sweet stories with endings that vary from the promise of a future to a walk down the church aisle.

Mainstream General—Sweetheart

Stories that fit this line run the gamut from characters who reunite after many years apart to family dramas rife with tensions from past misunderstandings. Close women friends from college might rally around to support one member of the group through a serious illness or family emergency. Economic conditions force siblings to share the family house and long-standing differences are finally resolved. Family members may come home for a funeral and the reading of the will sets off all sorts of problems. For stories without a romantic subplot, the protagonist should have a character arc showing change and growth from the beginning of the story to the conclusion.

Throw your characters into conflict and have them display their complex personalities by the way they deal with the issue. Settings can be anywhere in the world, and be sure to include enough details to make the place (real or fictional) come alive with sights and sounds. Show them working out their issues in various locations of your setting—use geography and weather to enhance the plot.

A romance doesn’t need to be at the center of the plot, but if a romantic interest is included for one of the characters, only sexual tension should exist. Love scenes, if they exist, must be behind closed doors.

Black Rose Line

The Black Rose Line at The Wild Rose Press is actively open for spicy to hot story submissions. Not to say we don’t accept “sweet” stories as well. If it fits our parameters, we want it.

The darker side of the garden seeks strong Alpha male or female weres, to die for vamps, or any other delicious mystical creature you have traipsing through your wildest imaginations. These stories should include vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, demons, gargoyles, and countless other mystical creatures. Though Black Rose stories are darker, they still must carry a strong romance theme as the central story thread. We are open to a wide range of stories, and because these creatures tend to be sensual in nature, Black Rose accepts manuscripts that fit the Sensual, Spicy, and Hot ratings parameters, but sex should not be used as the main story thread.

Black Rose is open to mainstream dark paranormal story submissions. What that means is, the main story thread for these submissions DOES NOT have to be romance oriented. We are excited to be open to this new venue and look forward to branching out to authors who write along these lines, though we have not opened to horror as yet. Please be sure your mainstream stories fit within our guidelines, as expressed above with the exception to the romantic elements, and wouldn’t better fit the horror genre. As always, please be aware of TWRP’s general guidelines as well when considering your submission’s best fit.

Please see the “How to Submit” section below.

Fantasy Rose Line

The Fantasy Rose line includes both romance and mainstream paranormal stories with characters who are sometimes in conflict with dangerous elements or beings. As in all our lines, our romances have to follow the traditional romance story pattern and must have a happy ever after.  The Fantasy Rose line can include stories that are sweet to extremely hot.

Fairies, mermaids, selkies, sprites, gods, goddesses, ghosts, super heroes, witches, warlocks, dragons, angels, and mythological creatures. Our line also emcompasses stories such as SciFi, the future, nano-technology, ESP, steam punk, or time travel.   Our line is limited only by your imagination.  We are always looking for new paranormal creatures and elements.

A few scenarios to get you started: Ghosts may come back for the love of their life or serve as the conflict keeping the hero and heroine apart. Wizards, warlocks, and witches crank up the romance like they spit out a spell. Futuristic worlds reveal heroes and heroines capable of wielding a sword or a laser, who fearlessly go after what their hearts desire. Time travels that move through the centuries with the hero and heroine seeking not the secrets of the ages but love. Fae kings or creatures who want to find a happy ending that will endure beyond the realm of time.

As with all our lines, please review our general submission guidelines before submitting to this or any other line.

Love scenes can range from sweet to hot but must not contain explicit words or graphic language. Historical accuracy is a must. Characters must stay true to their era in actions and speech.

We are looking for family sagas, coming of age stories featuring both male and female protagonists, and character driven stories with emotionally compelling, active writing. American Rose Line

The South may have fallen, but here at American Rose, valor is alive and well.  These stories feature the courageous men and women who battled hardship, disease, and wars to settle the new world. They fought in the Revolution, the War of 1812, The War Between the States and rebuilt our shattered nation.  American Rose stories are set in the US and celebrate America from the earliest Colonial times to the genteel days of the pre-war South to the reconstruction era, and the industrialization of the early twentieth century.

Cactus Rose Line

Saddle up for a ride on the wild side! The Wild West, that is.  Here at Cactus Rose, the clock is always at high noon.  These stories are set west of the Mississippi from the late 1860s to the end of the nineteenth century.  Let your imagination roam free with cowboys, American Indians, lawmen, outlaws, fast guns, ranchers, and soiled doves.  Whether they’re riding shotgun on a stagecoach, heading west in search of the land of milk and honey, or hunting buffalo on the wild Dakota plains, these characters are the brave men and women who made the west wild.

Scarlet Rose Line

If your writing leans toward the naughty side, you're in the right place. Have an erotic historical? How about a smokin' hot paranormal? Or an arousing M/M? Whether your manuscript is a thriller, western, contemporary, or fantasy, we invite you to bring your characters over to the Wilder side.

We accept ALL genres of erotica and erotic romance featuring both heterosexual and homosexual relationships.

We are looking for fresh and unique but believable plots with strong conflict, clear motivations, and goals realistic to characters our readers can relate to. We want character driven stories with emotionally compelling and active writing. We are not looking for diaries, journals, poetry, or porn.

We're looking for stories rich in sexual content. Sex scenes should be graphically described, including narrative, action, and dialogue. Vocabulary should be explicit—no flowery euphemisms.

Scarlet Rose will consider manuscripts as short as 5,000 words.

Erotic Romance: Our erotic romances range from sexy, light-hearted romps to darkly erotic journeys of forbidden pleasure. We encourage you to paint vivid images, explore your characters' desires, take them down uninhibited paths that push the envelope. Seduce our readers and make us squirm in our seats. The main characters remain monogamous and a happily ever after (HEA) or a happy for now (HFN) ending is a must.

Erotica: Sex is for pleasure and these stories are sure to please. Our erotic fiction reflects a character’s need to discover his/her sexual side. These stories can include stranger encounters, married couples experimenting, multiple partners, or involve darker tales bridging on taboo. A happy ending is possible but not necessary; relationships do not have to focus on commitment.
